Souks are Middle Eastern style bazaars that make for an enticing shopping experience and sensory overload in one. Dubai’s history is visible in its gritty souks, which unveil its past position as an international trading port.
In Dubai’s traditional Souks, you can buy all the things everyone associates with the Middle East; carpets, textiles, perfume, spices, gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Located near Jumeirah Beach area, the Souk Madinat Jumeriah is an entertainment complex that includes a traditional Arabian souk (market) with plenty of shops, plus restaurants and bars for when you need a break from spending.
The Gold Souk is another must-visit for magpies. It’s a traditional gold market located in Dubai’s central commercial business district, and consists of over 300 gold and jewellery sellers.
Seeking a contemporary twist on the traditional chaos of Middle Eastern Souks? Souq Madinat Jumeirah is for you.
In a climate where being outside for too long will leave you sweating, Dubai’s air-conditioned malls provide a welcome relief from the heat for expats and locals alike.
Located in the heart the prestigious Downtown Dubai is The Dubai Mall, the largest shopping and entertainment destination in the world. 1,200 retail outlets and over 160 food and beverage outlets.
The Mall of the Emirates is iconic: with polished marble floors and opulence at every angle – there’s even a dazzling skylight. The Mall will soon house the largest Apple store in the world, which will join the likes of Harvey Nichols and numerous chic boutiques. The multi-level shopping center currently features more than 560 international brands and more than 700 stores. It even has an indoor skiing slope!
Dubai plays host to almost 56% of the world’s biggest retail names, including Marks & Spencer. The number of international brands who have stores in Dubai is set to increase – last year, Hollister, Cavalli Cafe and McQ Alexander McQueen all opened outlets in the Emirate.
